03/20/2012: Good news! The pipe installation will be completed by this Thursday, March 22nd. We are presently preparing the subgrade for the new sidewalk and curb and gutter on Lucerne, north of Ironwood These items will be under way this Thursday, and take approximately two weeks. We will then reinstall the sod and irrigation system in this location. Within two weeks, a grinder will be onsite, which will be followed by the final phase of the project, the final paving of the trench line, as well as the section on 10th street connecting to the south end of Lucerne on the south side of Route 395. During the paving phase, Burdick Excavating will be de-mobilizing their equipment, materials and office trailer. We appreciate having an opportunity to work in Minden, and to get to know some of you who are fortunate to live and work in this community.

03/13/2012: Construction is moving along and the crew is now working on Tenth Street this week. Please avoid Tenth Street if possible, as it is very difficult to get through at this time. By Wednesday they should be onto the alley, making Tenth Street more accessible. As always, please do not hesitate to call the Town office if you have any questions or concerns regarding this project. We will be happy to get the answers for you, or you are also more than welcome to call the Town's inspector, Travis Osterhaut, directly at 775-771-0222.
01/27/2012: We are happy to inform you that the waterline installation is complete on the easement to the west of Lantana.
The pits on both sides of Lucerne at Route 395 have been dug, and the boring sub is beginning the horizontal drilling under Route 395. This work is expected to take approximately a week. Simultaneously, we are working northbound on Lucerne Drive to Ironwood.
On Wednesday, our pipeline on Lucerne has to cross over (at the entrance to Bohner Chiropractic) from the westerly lanes to the easterly lanes, which will result in about 4 hours when Lucerne will need to be closed to traffic in both directions. The length of the pipe being installed precludes any other alternative. We will have traffic controllers to help re-direct you, in addition to signage, for those hours. Our goal is to initiate this short closure at 7 am on Wednesday. In the event that Douglas County does not allow the 7 am closure, will move the closure to 12:30 pm. Our last email posting notified you of this closing, but we are now able to be more specific on the time and day, having completed the preparatory work.
Two way traffic will be maintained for the duration of the installation on Lucerne Drive, but we recommend alternative routes if possible.
Please feel free to contact Linda Burdick at Burdick Excavating Co (775)297-4566 or Travis Osterhaut, the Town’s inspector, at 775-771-0222.
01/20/2012: Progress down the easement to the west of Lantana Drive is nearing completion. This portion of the work is going very well.
Beginning next week, Jan 23rd, Burdick will be diverting traffic at the intersection of Route 395 and Lucerne Drive. Both north and south traffic on Lucerne will be taking place on the two lanes that are currently the northbound lanes of Lucerne. Signage and delineation will assist you with this. This traffic pattern will remain in place for approximately two weeks.
We will update you regularly, and recommend an alternate route if possible.
01/19/2012: Burdick Excavating Co. is now installing the new waterline on the easement to the west of Lantana, running from south to north. Our hope is that it goes quickly and that we have as little disturbance to your day as possible. The work on the easement should take six to seven working days.
When the easement is completed, Burdick will be working from the intersection of Route 395 and Lucerne, north on Lucerne. Traffic flow will be modified at this intersection, as well as Lucerne to Lantana, and we recommend alternate routes to avoid Lucerne if at all possible. Business ingress and egress will be maintained, with minor slowdowns and traffic flow pattern modifications.
Thanks for your patience, and we will work very hard to make this a positive experience for you while we are performing this work.
12/21/2011: We would like to update our schedule as recently posted. The traffic control on Lucerne and Route 395 is being postponed for two weeks to January 17th, as opposed to January 2nd.
All other elements of our previous report will stay the same. Work is continuing to the east on Poleline, then north on Heybourne for the rest of this week. Then when we return to work on January 2nd, we will begin installation proceeding south on the easement behind the homes on Lantana to Lucerne.
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday week.
12/19/2011: As of Monday, December 19th Burdick Excavating has completed the installation of the waterline past the residences in Winhaven on Poleline, and will proceed with the connection and waterline to Heybourne, then north on Heybourne for the balance of this week.
No work will be taking place on the project between Christmas and New Years. Beginning on Monday, January 2nd, work will begin moving south on the easement behind the homes on Lantana to Lucerne. The later part of this week, the bore pits at the intersection of Lucerne and Route 395 will be excavated, and traffic control in place on Lucerne.
On Monday, January 9th, pipe will be placed under Route 395, then proceed to the east through the vacant land to the parking lot.
Once again, if you have any questions or concerns, the inspector on the project is Travis Osterhut (775-771-0222), and Randy Burdick is also onsite (530-362-1034).
HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY WEEK from all of us at Burdick Excavating.
12/06/2011: Work began this morning (12/6/2011) on the 2011 Lucerne Water Main Installation project. It is being performed by Burdick Excavating Co, Inc. out of Carson City, NV. We are beginning work on the dirt road running east and west, parallel to the Poleline ditch off Heybourne Road, and proceeding west to the easement behind Lantana Drive, then continuing down the easement west of the homes on Lantana Drive, to Lucerne Drive. Installation of coir logs (environmental protection devices) is taking place today, and excavation for the pipe will begin tomorrow. At this time we plan on working four ten hour days, Monday through Thursday. When we encounter a weather day, we will try and work a Friday or Saturday.
There is are no traffic controls at this time.
Burdick Excavating will update this website when we begin excavation south on the easement to the west of the homes on Lantana, to Lucerne Drive.
Please feel free to contact the inspector onsite, Travis Osterhaut (775-771-0222) or Randy Burdick who is onsite (530-362-1034), or our office (775-297-4566) and ask for Linda Burdick.

County Road Beautification Project
As many of you know, the Town has been working on making Minden a more walkable community, as well as protecting our wellheads and beautifying our neighborhoods. The County Road project has been in the works for some time now, and the first phase between 1st and 7th Streets has been completed (with the exception of the block between 5th and 6th Streets). The Town of Minden is now working hard at getting the necessary funding to complete the project.
We have submitted a funding application to NDOT in attempts to achieve at least partial funding participation from them for the County Road project; however, based on the general timing of NDOT's funding cycle, any funding from NDOT may not arise until next year. Additionally, the Town is applying for grant funds from NDEP to also hopefully obtain additional partial funding for the project. The grant application is due September of 2011; therefore, we are not anticipating funding from NDEP until the follow year as well. Based on the status of these funding sources we do not expect to Phase 2 of the County Road project to be initiated until next year at the earliest, unless otherwise determined by the Town Board.
Check back for more updates as they become available. Before too long, Minden's residents and visitors will be able to stroll along the meandering sidewalk all the way through town!
